Over the past year, Meota ADRA has been sponsoring a monthly movie night. We started with borrowing a popcorn machine from the St. Joseph's Knights of Columbus in North Battleford (of which I am a member) and the Do Drop In supplying the space, as a trial event to see if it would go over. The movies that have been shown are ones that would appeal to a large range of ages and over the months we have had anywhere from 12 up to 32 people attend the showings. ADRA bought a video projector and a home theatre system to get things started then, once the evenings proved popular, we purchased our own popcorn machine to save hauling the other one back and forth.
At each of the shows there are always soft drinks available to all who come since you can't have a movie without popcorn and a drink. There is no charge to anyone for these evenings other than a collection is accepted. This past weekend we had our largest attendance to date as we were showing the movie Secretariat which went over great with all ages. Each night we have had representation from all age groups which has been wonderful in that it gives a venue for these folks from ages in the single digits to those kids who have seen numerous decades go by.
One of the great parts of these evenings has been seeing how many attendees pitch in afterwards to put equipment and chairs away as well as to help clean up. This is greatly appreciated by those of us who are volunteering to host the evenings. So, if you haven't been out to one of these shows, there will be another one coming up May 6 and, as in the past it will be at 7 p.m. at the Do Drop In and everyone is surely welcome.
I am told that work will be getting underway to install the new sewage lift station and new pipeline from there to the lagoon. Last year the old lift station was not able to keep up to demand at peak time thus this project got a start last fall. The lift station is located near the entry to the regional park and the pipeline goes through the park. I am told that a large part of the line will be directional bored so there won't be a lot of surface disturbance.
If you haven't noticed, there was some bush removed last fall to get things going but winter set it. Thus, as I said, it should be restarting very soon and I think they are hoping that it will be up and running when the demand peaks this summer, which is when the campground and all summer residents bring our population up to its peak.
In Kaiser play this past week, on March 31, Jean Gansauge cornered first place with second and third places being a tie between Adele Feschuk and Beulah Corbeil, and Shirley Tebay rounding out fourth place.
On April 1 in canasta play, the winning team was made up of Carole Schmaltz and Jean Gansauge.
In contract bridge on April 4, Joyce Antoine tied up first place with Terrence DaSilva coming in second. Then April 5 in duplicate bridge, first place went to the team of Ross Morton and Bea Novlan with Robert Iverson and Joyce Antoine taking second.
