Moose share bountiful apple crop

With harvest in full swing, bare fields are gradually appearing. Most crops have been or are being swathed. Let's hope the weather continues to be favourable for the harvest operations. Gardens are also being cleared now they are dry enough.

The apple crop has been excellent this year. In the last number of years the moose have been enjoying the apples as well. Towards the end of last week, when the garden was wet, the moose left their huge tracks in many parts of the yard, leaving clumps of soil from the garden on the grass. They come mostly in the evening or at night.

Some ladies from the area thoroughly enjoyed a Jubilee Tea honouring Queen Elizabeth on the 60th year of her reign held at the Best Western Express Motel in Lloydminster Sept. 8. Tea was served from 1 to 4 p.m.

The tea was in the form of a typical English tea featuring cucumber sandwiches, dainty sausage rolls, scones served with jam and whipped cream, cupcakes decorated with icing in the form of a crown and scepter and strawberries dipped in chocolate.

Another neat feature of the afternoon was the hats guests were encouraged to wear. Many were elegantly decorated with ribbons and feathers.

Some of those attending from this area were Lois Pike, Melanie Freeston, Yvonne Pike, Maureen Bexson and Christine Pike.

Mrs. Lou Forrest, a former district resident who has lived in Lloydminster for more than 25 years, moved her residence in mid August. She has been living in her own home but now is a resident in an apartment in Hallsholme. We send her our best wishes for happiness in her new residence.
