Hope everyone had a great New Year's Day and all the best for 2012. Over Christmas a moose decided Borden was a safe haven and was seen lying in front yards and eating the fruit and branches off trees in the northeast part of the village.

Hope everyone had a great New Year's Day and all the best for 2012.

Over Christmas a moose decided Borden was a safe haven and was seen lying in front yards and eating the fruit and branches off trees in the northeast part of the village. He hasn't been sighted since Boxing Day, so maybe he went back out to the country.

Working at the Borden Co-op Hardware is Kevin Prescesky of Radisson.

Winner of the Grad 2012 basket of goodies was Craig Tkaczyk of Borden. At Affinity Credit Union, for bringing in food bank items, the winners were Dianne Rawlyk, Gloria Derbowka, Michael Crabb and Lorraine Olinyk.

Borden School kindergarten to Grade 6 performed their annual Christmas concert in the community centre Dec. 20. Members of the school band - George Hembery, Ty Sargent, Michael Crabb and Aryn Polichuk - played some Christmas music prior to the concert. Borden Busy Bees Preschool children sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, then the main musical was introduced - A Martian Christmas.

In explaining to the Martians what Christmas is about, the Martians were taken to the school inside and out, to be shown the first part of the nativity, then the final nativity scene about the birth of Jesus, followed by Santa arriving outside the school to bring gifts for all good boys and girls. The choir, comprised of kindergarten to Grade 4 students, sang after each scene: Christmas at our School, Do You Need a Reason to Celebrate?, Follow Me, Ha Ha Ha!, It's Good to be Good, and closing with Celebrate, complete with rock and roll actions. Grades 3 and 4 put on the nativity scene and the Grade 5 and 6 students participated in the Martian Christmas play.

Emcees Brooklyn Gader and Emma Pidwerbesky extended thanks to the village for the free use of hall, to the dance club and Riverbend Fellowship Church for costumes and backdrop, to all teachers and staff who helped out and to the band students. Then Santa appeared to hand out gifts to all the preschool children, courtesy of the School Community Council and parents, while the school-aged children had a gift exchange.

Borden Friendship Club held their last potluck supper and December birthdays for 2011 Dec. 28, with over 20 out to enjoy the meal together. The decorated cakes were baked by Eileen Petrun and Happy Birthday was sung to Don Brand, Jean Hryniuk and John Longmore. After supper, a DVD was shown of Grand Ole Opry singers from the 1960s and '70s, the '60s in black in white and in colour for the '70s.

New Year's Eve was quiet in Borden and Radisson as there were only private house parties on. There was no dance in Borden and the dinner and magic show slated for Radisson, with proceeds to hockey teams, was cancelled due to low ticket sales.

In Radisson hockey games are scheduled for Jan. 7, 14, 17 and 28. There will be bingo in the hall Jan. 17.

In Borden there is a whist drive put on by the museum Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Seniors' Room. And, if we get more snow, the snowmobile rally will be in Borden Jan. 21, starting at 10 a.m. with lunch, and a supper in the community centre later. Look for more details regarding the rally in the next edition of the papers.

The new Red Bull owners had a rude welcome to Radisson when someone smashed in the front west door to the confectionery overnight Dec. 29/30, thereby gaining entry and stealing cigarettes and food items.
