It's October the month full of pumpkin spice aroma and flavours in many treats. It will soon be Thanksgiving and Halloween costumes are on the minds of children. It's the sounds and sights of geese making their way south, and it's the beauty of fall colours. We are still fortunately enjoying pretty decent weather for this time of year, although the wind warnings and 90 kilometre an hour winds that came Sept. 29 were an abrupt way to feel fall.

After several motor vehicle accidents involving moose in the area the weekend of Sept. 20 and 21, please remember that, due to increased farm activity, bird hunters and rutting season, these big beasts are on the move and they are very difficult to see at night. Either plan your trips to avoid night driving or be very, very aware of your surroundings while driving.

With the increased wildlife collisions, dry conditions causing field fires and the recent train derailment in Landis, let's remember how much we value our folks in protective services.

Warrior football endured their first loss in a Friday Night Lights game in Rosetown Sept. 27. It was a close back and forth game that put the team to the test. However, with a 3-1 record this season, it is considered a minor setback and the team is set to resume their winning ways.

St Peter's School also took part in the national School Terry Fox walk on a sunny Friday afternoon.

Unity Minor Football continues game action each weekend in the North West Minor Football league. The Unity Red team had a close, exciting game against a strong Plenty squad, Sept. 29. After holding the lead through much of the game, in spite of some deep holes due to injury, the excitement continued into the second half. However, a revved up Plenty team, combined with the wind advantage, caused a last-minute play and Unity couldn't finish with a win.

3-on-3 hockey began Sept. 30 and will continue until Oct. 11. For all hockey fans, live action hockey on a regular basis will be back in our arena. You can log on to the Town of Unity website for the arena schedule, updated regularly.

Coffee row conversation is a flurry of conversation as contributors talk of their dismay and concern with what appears to be a downward trend for the Riders after suffering their fourth loss in a nail-biter against Montreal. Harvest is a topic that is always front and centre. The fall always brings a full slate of activities to discuss and review. So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week.
