Irene Degenstien of Battleford, reached a significant milestone in her life with the celebration of her 95th birthday  March 13.

A gathering was held in Battleford on Saturday, March 12, where nine of her 10 children joined with her to celebrate at the Golden Years Lodge, where Irene has resided for the past few years.

Originally from Victoria, B.C., Irene (nee Pearce) moved to the Battlefords area in the late 1940s where she and her late husband Joe Degenstien farmed in the Eagle Valley District. Joe passed away in May 2005.

Until recently, Irene had been active in the Battleford United Church, and was a founding member of the Battleford Hillcrest Senior Centre, which closed last year.

One of Irene’s daughters, Edna, was unable to attend as she was out of the country. Those attending included eldest daughter Diana, daughters Patricia and Lorraine and sons Todd, David, Barry, Brian, Walter and Stephen; as well as several spouses and grandchildren.
