Members ready to stitch after taking a holiday break

The Quilt Patch

Eighteen people braved the cold Jan. 9 for the first business meeting of the Rivers’ Edge Quilt Guild of the year. The scarcity of projects for show and tell proved that guild members had spent their time during the festive season visiting with family and friends and experiencing culinary delights instead of at the sewing machine, and quite rightly so.

During 2014 members had been busy making comfort quilts for the community and 16 were donated to the Empty Stocking Fund for the Christmas hamper delivery and a number of quilts to other deserving agencies, Interval House being one of them.

A number of vintage quilts are expected to find homes at one of the local museums sometime in the near future.

The new year is in full steam ahead mode with several activities in which to participate. Plans have been made for flannel rag quilt instruction in January at the Don Ross craft room provided by Ilene of Ilene's Quilting Plus in Unity, and a three-day quilt marathon in February with Debbie Burwash, a noted quilter, presenting a mystery quilt activity.

The monthly sewing sessions at the Battlefords Branch of the Canadian Mental Health building, which have been so well received, will continue throughout 2015.

Of particular interest to quilters will be the presentation of a travelling quilt show entitled "It's Time for Colour" by the Canadian Quilt Association Feb. 12. This presentation should energize us all.

If your new year's resolutions did not include joining the quilt guild it is not too late to do so. Beginners or experienced quilters are invited to attend the business meeting which takes place in the craft room on the first Friday of the month at 1 p.m. or for further information please contact Carol at 306-445-4352 or Barb at 306-445-0486.
