Can you believe more than $40,000 was raised from the live and silent auction held for Karen Fertuck (Hultman)?
Karen is waiting to go to Edmonton for a liver transplant. She was diagnosed with primary biliary cirrhosis a number of years ago and has since had several life threatening situations over the past few years. These have put her at a high priority for a liver transplant.
After she receives a donated liver she will need to stay in hospital three to seven days if there are no complications. After that, she will need to be closely followed up by a doctor and have regular blood test for one to two months. The recovery period is about six to 12 months.
The transplant team may ask her to stay close to the hospital for the first three months, and she will need regular checkups, with blood test and x-rays for many years to follow.
Family and friends worked hard to make this fundraiser a success. Over 300 people attended some came from Fort Saskatchewan and Lethbridge, Alta. and many from Saskatoon and naturally locals who love and care for Karen.
There were two silent auctions with 50 items each plus a live auction which ran for four hours. A big surprise for Karen was her ball teammates from her teens who showed up to serve lunch. People were entertained by the band Sorry. The committee and everyone who donated items for the live and silent auction ensured the event's success. Sunnydale Colony donated the buns.
Who had the late Johnny Cash and George Jones come to entertain for their 60th birthday? Kevan Migneault from Migneault Greenwood. A surprised Kevan was entertained by Mel Deagnon singing Johnny Cash and Carl Ross singing Georges Jones accompanied by Tom Caldwell.
