Medals at provincial track for UCHS students

How did the middle of June arrive already! As a parent of a soon-to-be-graduate, I am doing the last minute panicking thinking of, not only my "to do" list for grad, but wondering how I am going to let her go.

Unity Composite High School (UCHS) had an exciting couple of days June 7 and 8. A large contingent of athletes attended provincial track and field in Moose Jaw. It was announced Friday that Rhett Timmermans won gold in javelin, and soon to follow were Emily Mabbett with silver in javelin and Kyla Van de Meutter with bronze in running.

UPS is also a busy place with year-end activities. The SCC is providing a free pizza lunch June 18 for the students. Students are also taking in all the moments they can with Mr. English as June marks his last month before retirement.

Ball teams headed out of town June 7 weekend did not find favourable weather. The midgets headed to Regina and only got in two games before the tournament was eventually suspended due to continuous rain. Teams heading to Outlook were also disappointed as rain forced the cancellation of their event. However, the peewee boys' baseball was able to continue as was peewee girls' softball in Macklin.

Our loyal Legion fellows are working hard to raise funds for their cemetery veterans' section rejuvenation project. As well as throwing spare change into the numerous drop boxes around town, you can attend their barbecue June 20, 5 p.m., at Family Foods.

The Unity Flying Club is holding an open house June 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a hot dog lunch. Come and meet club members and see the planes.

Coffee row conversation continues to wonder how many more mosquitoes we can possibly get, as well as predictions between the final two Stanley Cup teams. Rider season is discussed as training camp has started and the season draws closer. As always, the numerous events taking place in town are reviewed with enthusiasm.

So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week
