MAYFAIR — How many people have an abundance of vegetables during the wonderful summer weather we’ve experienced on the prairies? There is nothing like eating fresh food from a garden as the taste supersedes the store produce.
In our area the crops are looking extraordinarily great but it’s only the third week in August so one never knows what can happen before harvest. Early harvest means farm families have to wrap up their lake and camping days only to dream about next summer’s activities.
Rustic Nine Golf Course northeast of North Battleford was the setting for the wedding of Mayfair girl Brooke and Spiritwood’s Reilly Reiger July 23. She is the daughter to Gordon and Shannon Prescesky and granddaughter of Morris and Sonia Prescesky, who all farm near Mayfair. The happy couple are making their home in Saskatoon.
Taylor Salisbury, daughter to Paul and Amanda Salisbury of Mullingar, became the bride to Kiefer Kitching of Meeting Lake July 23. His parents are Kent and Karen also of Meeting Lake. This beautiful wedding took place at Mayfair Hall.
Deepest sympathy to Shirley Goyan, son Curtis of Whitkow and daughters Michelle of Lloydminster and Rachel of Kelowna, B.C. and their spouses on the recent passing of their dear husband and father, 80-year-old Julian. A funeral is to be held at the Don Ross Centre Thursday, Aug.18 at 10:30 a.m. Julian could always put a smile on someone’s face with his sense of humour. He will certainly be missed by family, friends and neighbours.
Togetherness is what keeps a thriving community going and just what the hamlet of Ruddell is again doing. On July 1, games and socializing with a potluck supper were enjoyed by a good-sized crowd. Last Wednesday a wiener roast on Main Street brought most of the same friends back for more fun. Usually once a month some sort of activity is planned.
Not far down the highway, the village of Maymont has posters up already advertising a fall supper and live entertainment in the Memorial Hall Saturday, Oct. 8. Hopefully, harvest will be winding down in that area.
Gardens have been producing in leaps and bounds, so a couple of Mayfair folks have some for sale. Dora Brown, who has regular customers, can still fill some extra orders by calling 306-246-4848. A busy mom of young children, Lauren Liebaert at 306-481-6266, has a green thumb for producing many vegetables, plus prepares delicious relish that is also for sale. One can notify Lauren by texting if unable to reach her on the phone.
Motorists please be aware of more large machinery on the highways and side roads as farmers are moving from one point to another. Manufactures haven’t produced them to go top notch speed as it would pose a real danger. Stay safe rather than be sorry, because a few minutes difference isn’t the end of the world
