Got kids? Today, May 14, is the beginning of a Positive Discipline Parenting Program at the North Battleford Primary Health Centre. There will be eight evening sessions running until June 6. This program is for parents of children 0 to 5 years old and is based on the book, Positive Discipline: What it is and How to Do it by Dr. Joan Durrant, Ph.D. To register call 306-446-6438.

For those who enjoy original film, the Battlefords Allied Arts Council, North Battleford Library and the Chapel Gallery have been taking in submissions for a Flick Fest with a public screening scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the North Battleford Library. This year there is a special centennial category. Other categories are drama, documentary, animation and experimental.

Head to downtown North Battleford on Friday if you're hungry. The RCMP will be having a barbecue to mark Police Week on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the detachment.

It's the May Long weekend coming up and, traditionally, it's the first weekend many of us head to the lake country. The Battlefords Provincial Park, like other Saskatchewan provincial parks, is open with full services on Thursday, May 16. Remember, Saskatchewan Provincial Parks will enforce a ban on all alcohol in park and recreation site campgrounds for the May long weekend, from Thursday until 11 p.m. Monday, May 20, inclusive. Individuals are still free to consume alcohol in private cottages and licensed establishments in the parks.

The Canadian Legion of Riders is taking part in an awareness ride on Saturday, May 18 in support of National Motorcycle Awareness Month. Meeting up at Splish Splash Car Wash at 521 Pioneer Ave. in North Battleford at 10 a.m., riders are to depart at 11 a.m. The plan is to meet some riders in Glaslyn, then head off to Shell Lake to meet up with riders from Prince Albert. After a lunch and a few doorprize draws, Meadow Lake riders will head home via Highway 55, Prince Albert and Battlefords riders will head to Blaine Lake, where they will then split up and head home. There is no cost for this event and everyone is welcome.

Lashburn has plans for Victoria Day. The Scott Wood Band presents Swinging Fiddles at the Lashburn Community Hall at 2 p.m. The poster announces three fiddlers "playing sweetly in harmony, sensational step dancing, Scott's famous trick fiddling, and home-spun family humour."
