Saskatchewan officially proclaimed May 2014 as Missing Children's Month. This year marks the 23rd annual green ribbon campaign by Child Find Saskatchewan, which includes National Missing Children's Day May 25.

"Ensuring the safety and well-being of all children and youth in our province is paramount," Social Services Minister June Draude said. She encourages all Saskatchewan residents to wear a green ribbon of hope this month to raise awareness for all missing children and their families.

Citizens can help support Child Find Saskatchewan by making donations to the organization's green ribbon donation boxes located at Saskatchewan Liquor Board stores across the province this month.

"The green ribbon is a symbol of remembrance and hope for the safe return of missing children in our province and country," Child Find Saskatchewan president Phyllis Hallat says. "We believe that a missing child is everyone's responsibility."

Child Find Saskatchewan is a charitable organization that educates and advocates for the protection and rights of children and youth, and works with law enforcement agencies and other partners to help locate missing children. If further information is required please visit Child Find Saskatchewan.

If you weren't invited, you missed out on a wonderful potluck supper, jam and turkey fry hosted by Tom Caldwell. He was overwhelmed by everyone who showed up. Thanks for making his day. A great time was held by all. Maybe, if you're nice to Tom, he'll invite you next year.

Entertainment was provided by Tom himself, Walt Dumont, Dave Heibert, Bert Carpentier and Mel Deagnon. The boys even played the drums. Kolon Bulmer also entertained with the boys.

A traditional turkey fryer kit consists of a burner, a large stock pot with lid, a basket and/or poultry holder, a lifter and a thermometer. The burner operates on a standard propane tank that usually must be purchased separately. Current burner units are much lower than the original design so as to increase stability and help prevent tip-overs.

Lower cost units use an aluminum stock pot and a steel burner while higher-end units include a stainless steel pot and burner. Some stock pots may have an integrated valve to drain the oil. The poultry holder consists of an aluminum or stainless steel disk with a metal rod formed into a loop with the ends affixed to the center of the disk. The loop is placed through the cavity of the turkey and the lifter is used to lower and remove the turkey. If a basket is used, it includes a bail that is grabbed by the lifter.

The thermometer has a long probe and is used to monitor the temperature of the oil. The fryer can also be used to cook other poultry and seafood. The stock pot lid is used to cover the pot only when not actually frying or when preparing other foods by boiling in water. Heavy gloves and an apron are recommended.

Now that you know what it is, how many will go out and buy one?
