Saturday, May 24, the Don Ross Centre will be the venue for a show starring a master fiddler who is known to turn somersaults and step dance while playing the fiddle.
The Scott Woods Old Time Jubilee is an authentic live tribute to Don Messer's Jubilee - one of the most popular TV shows in Canadian history.
The show reunitesGrand Master Fiddle Champion Scott Woods (as Don Messer), CapeBreton Tenor Tommy Leadbeater (as Charlie Chamberlain) and East Coast Music AwardWinner Bruce Timmins (as Cecil McEachern).
The show also features the velvet vocals of Lynda Lewis (as Marg Osborne) and 16-year-old step dance champion Emma March in this two-hour performance honouring the days when Don Messer and his Islanders ruled the airwaves.
The fast paced show is for audiences of all ages with old time fiddle music, step dancing, trick fiddling, family humour and more.
The May 24 performance is part of a tour of 67 presentations taking place across Canada from March 22 to June 29. Almost all support churches, charities and other community service groups.
Scott Woods studied classical violin from age four. He also plays several other instruments, but his favourite is fiddle - whether it's classical, jazz, big band, country, swing, Celtic, or old time music. His love of fiddling has been passed down through six generations of his family.
Woods is a two-time winner of the Canadian Open Fiddle Contest, two-time winner of the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championships and winner of a Canadian Fiddle Entertainer of the Year title. He has also won competitions and performed throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. For seven years Scott was the musical director and played the part of Don Messer in Memories of Don Messer's Jubilee that toured extensively in Canada.
