Local team attends old timers' tourney

After a few days of hot weather we have been experiencing cooler temperatures and cool winds. Those who do haying have had fine weather for that job. Maureen Bexson has been spending a few days with her sister Christine Pike.

After a few days of hot weather we have been experiencing cooler temperatures and cool winds. Those who do haying have had fine weather for that job.

Maureen Bexson has been spending a few days with her sister Christine Pike. They spent Friday afternoon and evening at the Lloydminster fair where Maureen presented a trophy, "The Last Shoe," in honour of her late husband, Rusty Bexson, to the winner of the six-horse hitch, a feature of the draft horse show each year. There were seven teams competing in the six-horse hitch competition. One hundred draft horses took part in competition this year. Incidentally, Maureen's son-in-law, Bryan Coleman, was the winner of the six horse hitch this year, his first win in that competition.

A good crowd attended the old timers' annual ball tournament held at Davidson this year on the weekend of July 5. Among the crowd was a large group of enthusiasts from the local area. Sixteen campers belonging to locals were there.

The local team, Standard Hill Old Timers, have been in attendance each year since the tournament began. Bill Pike, Keith Pike, Kevin Pike and Chris Blyth were the locals playing on that team. Friday of the tournament they won both their games - 7-0 and 4-1. Unfortunately the tournament was rained out, so no more games could be played.

Honoured on the occasion were Keith Pike, who received a 25-year award, and Chris Blyth, who earned his 10-year award. Congratulations to both of you.

All were disappointed with the event was rained out, especially since the home team was on a roll.

Congratulations to all team members and to all how attend each year to support the team.

Congratulations to Michelle Blyth and Eric Tiegen, who were married in Lloydminster July 13. Celebrations which followed were also held in Lloydminster.
