Local rink provincial bound

Winter really set in this week with the thermometer registering - 27 C. An icy wind blowing from the northwest made the weather very cold. Snow was blowing across the road Monday and making drifts in the yard. More work for the shovel.

The cold weather that set in Sunday was preceded by a few days of rather springy weather with the thermometer registering a temperature of 4 C. What a difference! However, the sun was really bright and if you were standing by a window with the sun shining in, you would never dream that it was so cold outside.

Winter sports go on as usual. Congratulations to the Maidstone ladies who curled in the northern finals in North Battleford and advanced to the provincials to be held this week in Balgonie. The rink consisted of skip, Jill (Johnston) Shumay, Kara Johnston, Taryn Holtby and Jinaye Ayrey.

This is a good week to be holidaying in a warmer climate. Rene and Terry Pike, Wayne and Jane Pike of Meadow Lake and Dana and Laurie Kobes will be returning this coming weekend from two weeks spent in Hawaii. Actually Dana and Laurie only spent a week there.
