Local couple experiencing Egypt first hand

At this time we are also thinking of Earl and Shirley Jones who are "vacationing" in Egypt. I am sure they will have lots to share when they get home. We are wishing them safety as they deal with frustrations.

The community sends its condolences to Larry and Laureen Becotte on the passing of Laureen's mother. Our expressions of sympathy are also extended to the Kitching family on the passing of their mother and grandmother, Clara Kitching.

Get well wishes go out to Paul Kobernick who is a patient in Shellbrook Hospital and to Hazel Speerbrecker who is in the hospital in North Battleford.

It takes many hands to keep a small community vibrant. It goes without saying these tasks are all volunteer. Last week Isabelle McLennan was talking about the role of the Rabbit Lake Health Care Auxiliary. She was outlining the activities of this group and I learned this is the group that provides Christmas bags for the residents of the lodge, provides transportation to medical appointments for residents, contribute financially to the lodge for required extras, help with things like painting, wall washing and cleaning at the lodge and maintain a garden for the lodge and the community.

The executive of the Health Care Auxiliary includes Norma Sherman - president, Isabelle McLennan - vice president, Ruth Hrynewich - secretary and Jessie Konopelski - treasurer. Other members are Jeanette Krelow, Cyndy Spielmann, Laureen Becotte and Marlene Martens. New members are always welcome. Norma Sherman is the auxiliary's representative to the Rabbit Lake Health Care Board.

Another opportunity to get involved is to be part of the Rabbit Lake Community Hall Board. The annual meeting for the hall is on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the hall.

Although it seems like a long ways away, the Rabbit Lake group are beginning to talk about it participation in the annual Relay for Life, a fundraiser of the Canadian Cancer Society. If you are interested in being on the team contact Isabelle McLennan.

The Village of Rabbit Lake office has set new hours. Brenda will be at the office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The RM office remains the same as always.

If you enjoy cowboy poetry, come hear Ken Mitchell. This poet is being hosted by the Rabbit Lake Library Book Club and the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild. He will be offering his poetry and entertainment at the community hall Feb. 24 at 2:30 p.m. The poetry will be followed by coffee, biscuits and beans!
