THE BATTLEFORDS — An Early Years outdoor Storywalk event was organized and hosted by members of the Battlefords Early Childhood Community Planning Network on Friday, June 3, from 10 a.m. yo 2 p.m. This well-attended event of over 500 participants was held in three locations: Central Park (next to the North Battleford Public Library), the Natural Play Space Playground in Centennial Park and at the ACT Park in Battleford. Everyone was invited to attend one location or all.
Not only did children ages 0-5 come, younger students from schools took advantage, partaking in the event as well. Children circulated through pages of a book that were spread out throughout the space. Different interactive books were displayed in each of the Storywalk locations. It was an experience of learning in action … exercising the mind and body.
At the end of the Storywalk, children were able to choose a book of their own to walk away with, thanks to KidsFirst.
It was also nice to see the “immunization van” from Saskatchewan Health Authority traveling throughout the locations.
Finally, a huge thank you goes out to the planning and preparation committee, which consisted of Joyce Hannah Paulhus (KidsFirst), Colleen Sabraw (BECIP), Rebecca Robinson (Lloydminster Learning Council), Elaine Sonmor (Sask Health Authority), Rachel Florence (Living Sky School Division) and Nadine Anderson (Light of Christ Catholic Schools).
