Lions Chorus entertains in Edam

Meota News

Now the days are getting shorter and cooler, so summer is over! Let’s hope we have a decent fall as everyone takes in the birdbaths and puts away their flower pots. How good to see grain bags in many fields and many bales in others. The geese have not left yet, so it’s still pretty noisy around the lake twice a day as they come and go.

The Meota Lions Chorus entertained at the Lady Minto Health Centre in Edam, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. and many showed up in their Halloween attire. Their musical program found many of the 18 patients and residents from the lodge, joining in singing the old time hits. The action songs where they mingled with their audience, were a joy to watch. What fun everyone had, for a full hour of music. The group were treated to a nice lunch afterwards.

How nice to be able to get air in a tire right here in Meota and so many other services Robin Davis offers here. I saw him tuning up a snow blower recently, which I’m sure will be needed sooner or later. He is in the car wash building.

About a dozen showed up at the Do Drop In for coffee and muffins Wednesday morning this past week. We even had Pearl and Arie out from town.

Meota Agencies are now open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed for lunch weekdays.

Old batteries can be dropped off at the garbage dump or at the Lions’ bottle depot next door to Larry Doke’s office at ‘A’ 100 - 2nd St. E.

In Walmart on Nov.1, people were returning their unopened boxes of candy that were left from Halloween night. Halloween candy and costumes were all on sale at half price.

Duplicate bridge played at the Do Drop In Oct. 30 in Meota saw top score go to Maureen Campbell and Margaret Dyck. Second were Robert Iverson and Linda Ard, third were Eric Callbeck and Julie Moore. In the Pioneer Hall Nov. 1, the top score in bridge went to Margaret Dyck and Dave Creegan. Second were Jean Lawes and Fraser Glen and third were Cletus Scherman and Jeannine Beloin.

A pleasant evening in the Do Drop In Nov. 2, found three tables playing canasta. Top score went to Linda Ard and Dave Ottas. Second were Lorna Pearson and Eric Callbeck and third were Paulette Neale and Arlene Walker.

Coming up in Turtleford are topics that need to be addressed, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. The presentation by Caeleigh Shier will cover Wills, Power of Attorney and Health Care Directive. This is offered free, but one can bring a food bank offering or a cash donation. For more information call 587-282-1000. A question and answer period will follow.

Don't forget that the November hall noon meal will be on Sunday, Nov. 11 following the Remembrance Day Service, not on Nov. 16. Service starts at 10:30 a.m. The treat this month will be buffalo meat (donated by Hubert Esquirol) along with lasagna, Caesar salad, garlic bread and a variety of desserts. See you there!
