Lighting contest results revealed at chili supper

The only difference I can see in last winter and this winter is how long it will last. Maybe I am becoming a wuss but I am finding this winter too cold for too long.

The village council was pleased with the response to the Christmas lighting contest that was judged Dec. 15. Prizes were awarded at a chili supper.

The best residential entry was awarded to Shirley and Greg MacKenzie. This category was sponsored by Aumack Electric and Glaslyn Agencies. The best religious theme was sponsored by Spiritwood Barber Shop and Rabbit Lake Senior Sunrise Circle and won by Cornie and Marlene Martens. The best animated display was won by Cindy Miller and sponsored by Rose Gill Lodge and DW Builders. The best rural display was sponsored by Cavalier Agro and Rabbit Lake Recreation Center and won by Pat and Carmen Price. The best business/commercial display went to Rose Gill Lodge and was sponsored by The Wright Choice Seed Cleaners and the Rabbit Lake Hotel.

People's Choice was sponsored by Sherman's Welding and won by the Rabbit Lake Village Office/RM of Round Hill office and Canada Post. The three offices are all in one building so together they created the North Pole with Toyland and the whole works.

The whole thing was fun and we are planning to do it again next Christmas. Since there were a few prizes donated but not awarded, they will be awarded at the music jam sessions. A huge thanks go out to all those who registered their displays and those who sponsored events.

There will be a music jam session at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall Jan. 25, from 2 p.m. on. Bring an instrument or come and sing, or at least use the hardwood floor for some dancing. The village council sponsors the event.

This year once again Whistle-stop Foods held its annual Christmas draw. Carol Ferguson was the winner of the snowman cookie jar filled with baking. Way to go, Carol.

Congratulations go out to Rosaline Moore as she celebrated her 80th birthday Jan. 3. Her family hosted a come and go tea at the Rabbit Lake Seniors' Centre and a nice group of friends and relatives fought the cold and made it a good time.

Congratulations to Rob and Jessie McNabb on the birth of a boy Dec 27. Memphis Boyd McNabb will be a brother to Marti-Beth, Maria and Morgan and a grandson to Bruce and Jean McNabb.

The community sends its condolences to Jan Richter and to Shelly Laughlin and their families. Both lost their mothers over the Christmas holiday season. Also we remember the families of Harvey Froese and Ron Pethick who recently passed away.

Because of the persistence of the volunteers, the Rabbit Lake Arena will be open for another season. The first night was Jan. 7, with burgers, bunnock and skating.
