Light horse club shines at achievement day

The Borden Light Horse 4-H Club held their achievement day on Aug. 17 at the Memorial Park Arena at the Borden Sports Grounds.

The Borden Light Horse 4-H Club held their achievement day on Aug. 17 at the Memorial Park Arena at the Borden Sports Grounds.

Under the leadership of general leader Alana Gunsch, and leaders Sonia Sutherland and Taya Richardson, the club has 14 registered members but only eight were able to attend the day's activities.

Teaira Tracksell was the sole Cloverbud taking part and Becky Cutting the only senior. They placed first in all of their events.

In the morning the members had a judging competition. Placing in juniors were Rachel Sutherland, Savannah Sutherland, Colton Thiessen and Spencer Thiessen. In Intermediates, Chantelle McLeod was first and Emma Prescesky second.

Showmanship classes were held before lunch. Placing in juniors were Rachel, Savannah, Spence and Colton. Chantelle was first in intermediate and Emma was second.

In western pleasure, juniors earning placings were Rachel, Colton, Savannah and Spencer. In intermediates Chantelle was first with Emma second.

In record book juding, Teaira received 90 per cent, Rachel 94 per cent, Savannah 92 per cent, Chantelle 91 per cent, Emma 90 per cent and Melissa Saunders 93 per cent. Melissa was away at Farrier school in the United States.

After lunch break, they participated in fun games. In egg stomp Colton ,was first and Teaira second in the first heat, Spencer was first and Becky second in the second heat and in the finals it was Colton first, Becky second, Spencer third and Teaira fourth.

In egg and spoon, holding on to the egg the longest was Becky. Others placing were Chantelle, Colton, Rachel and Emma. The members then had a trail or obstacle course. Going through the eight obstacles in best time was Colton followed by Chantelle, Emma and Becky.

The members then had to ride bareback holding notepaper (representing a $5 bill) under their knee and walk, trot, back up. The last one with the paper won $40. Achieving this was Teaira with Spencer a close second.

Taya thanked the members for a great job, the parents, the judge Lynette Schmidt and record book judge Jacqueline Corbett of Saskatoon. She expressed special thanks to president Melissa Saunders and vice-president Chantelle for all their efforts.

Registration for the upcoming year will be Sept. 19 and the leaders hope everyone will rejoin and new members are welcome.

Congratulations to Dan and Alana Guncsh, who had a baby boy Aug. 16. Max Lyndon is a baby brother for Alex. Alana stopped in at the 4-H day on her way home from hospital to show off the new addition.
