Life can be found in death

As the cold October winds blow and the autumn leaves fall from the trees, it is fitting that the Window Gallery at the Chapel Gallery exhibits Liza Gareau Tosh's most recent series of paintings, Nature Morte (Dead Nature).

Tosh's intention with these paintings is to emphasize that life can emerge or, at least, be found in death. By using colour symbolically, Liza hopes to bring "life" to the objects that make up the content of her paintings. "Something is here, and before it is gone forever, may hope remain in its last moments," says Tosh.

Tosh was born and raised in Bellevue, a small town known for its wood sculptors and cultural heritage. After 20 years, Tosh still loves to paint and has developed a style of her own.

Come to the Chapel Gallery in the Don Ross Center to view her artwork. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free but any and all donations are welcome.

Also, this weekend the Chapel Gallery is hosting a workshop, Rethinking Landscapes, instructed by Dean Bauche. This workshop will explore a simple and new approach to landscape painting by using classical painting techniques, along with high dynamic range photography, that will impact the quality of landscape painting in oil, acrylic and watercolour. HDR will be demonstrated as a way of using photographs for inspiration.

Bauche's workshop will be on Friday, Oct, 12, 7 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Don Ross Center craft room. Refreshments will be provided. Bring a bag lunch. The fee is $110 gallery members/$160 public. To register and/or become a gallery member call the Chapel Gallery at 445-1757.
