Dec. 19, the Speers branch of Lakeland Library held an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with 12 people attending. Colleen Wicks, local librarian, served coffee, punch and cookies and had decorated the library for Christmas. Door prizes were given out and winners were Lynn Clark, Mo Kachmarski, Esther Laviolette, Norman Wicks, Phyllis Cunningham, Erin Langley, Diana Kindrachuk, Cory and Michelle Rudd. Winners of the teddy bear raffle were John Kindrachuk and Diane Jones. A big thank you to everyone who attended for their continuing support of the local library.

Dec. 20, the library had a Christmas party for the children. Phyllis Cunningham entertained with songs and rhythm instruments and they also made crafts to take home. They had a surprise visit from Santa with treats and gifts. Colleen then served cookies and hot chocolate.

Norman and Colleen Wicks had family home for Christmas including Clinton, Kerrie, Jasmine, Danielle, Tamara, Thomas and Marguerite Zunich from Saskatoon and Denise, Thomas, Jorda and Elaine of North Battleford. The Wicks then went to Prince Albert for a New Year's Eve wedding and spent New Year's Day with family and the latest great-grandchild born Dec. 22. Ethan Zachery is a son to Ryan and Jackie Wicks and a brother to Sarah.

Sympathy of the district and friends to the families of Roy Thompson of Richard, Thelma Patterson of Maymont and Sandra Prescesky-Illingworth of rural North Battleford, daughter of Jim and Debbie Prescesky. These three people have recently passed away.
