Library celebrates Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, Colleen Wicks, local librarian, held an open house at the Speers Library for children and adults. Five adults and two children attended. Colleen had them make Valentines and they were put in a box for a draw.

For Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, Colleen Wicks, local librarian, held an open house at the Speers Library for children and adults. Five adults and two children attended. Colleen had them make Valentines and they were put in a box for a draw. Anita Rebeyka of Speers won the prize. Feb. 11, Colleen had a Valentine party for the children. They all made Valentine cards and received a prize. Colleen served cupcakes, juice and coffee for both occasions. Jane Zipchen won the door prize at the children's party.

The World Day of Prayer was held in the Roman Catholic Church in Hafford this year with some members of the Speers United Church attending. This year's World Day of Prayer was written by the committee of France with the theme "I was a stranger and you welcomed me." France is a republic, with a parliamentarian system of government. France has many rivers and a temperate climate and regular rains. Their currency is the euro. They relinquished the franc in 2000. France has a population of 63 million in Central France. There are 2.5 million in overseas departments and territories which are Guadeloupe, French Guyana, Reunion Mayotte, New Caledonia, St. Pierre and Miguelon, Wallis and Futuna.

In 2014, the World Day of Prayer Service will be written by the women of Egypt, with the theme being "streams of the dessert".

Sympathy of the district goes out to the family and friends of Mamie Doric of Speers who recently passed away in Battlefords Union Hospital.
