The regular monthly Games Day was held at the seniors' centre May 7. Edith Christensen and Tom Poppleton were the winners of the A side in the shuffleboard tournament. Jean Ball and Shirley Nuspl were the runners-up. On the B side, Mary Graham and Irene Ducherer came up trumps, with Edna Jeffrey and Marjorie Nattress coming in second.
After a soup and sandwich luncheon, cribbage was played. Linda McGarry and Edith Christensen were the high players and Marlene Spence and Hugh Polkinghorne were the players with the low hands. Marjorie Nattress was the lucky winner of the raffle prize. Now that summer is upon us, there will be no more Games Days until fall.
Miss Johnson reports that the Grade 4 to 6 students from Neilburg Composite School went to the Tri-Meet in Lashburn June 6. The students had a great time, even with the windy weather and the odd rain shower. The students made Neilburg proud with the ribbons they won. Congratulations to Wyatt Marshall for winning a medal in the age 11 boys' overall standings.
Many groups in Canada are collecting pennies and then donating them to a children's charity. NCS has decided to collect pennies which will then be donated to UNICEF. If you would like to donate to the cause, please drop your pennies off at the school. Over $67 has been raised in this way, to date.
The Grade 1 and 2 class presented the Bullybuster Kids Concert for Change, June 12. They performed a variety of songs and dances aimed to raise awareness about bullying and to encourage kids to stand up for themselves and others. The students have been working hard for the past month to bring a wide variety of songs that talk about standing up for others, feeling good about who you are and of course stopping bullying. It was an inspiring afternoon of song and dance.
Marcie Park held a piano recital for her music students June 3 in the NCS gym.
The Neilburg branch of the Royal Canadian Legion held a barbecue June 8. Originally this was also supposed to be an initiation night but due to poor weather that part of the program was postponed until a later date.
The Neilburg branch of the Lakeland Library held a casual coffee, round table discussion about digital cameras, June 13.
A bridal shower for Miss Massey was held in her honour in the Neilburg Composite School library June 14. Miss Massey will be getting married this summer. She has been teaching Grade 1 and 2 for the past year while Mrs. Perkins is on maternity leave.
Manitou Evangelical Free Church is gearing up for Vacation Bible School. It will be held from Aug. 13 through 17 from 8:45 a.m. until noon. The theme for the week is Son Harvest Country Fair. There will be Bible stories, crafts, snacks, fun activities and games. All are welcome to attend. For more information, call the church office.
