Along with It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels, Helmay will be singing other Kitty Wells music. Kitty Wells was born Ellen Muriel Deason Aug. 30, 1919. She died July 16, 2012. In 1952, It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels made Wells the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts, and turned her into the first female country star.

Wells ranks as the sixth most successful female vocalist in the history of Billboard's country charts, according to historian Joel Whitburn's book The Top 40 Country Hits, behind Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette and Tanya Tucker. In 1976, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1991, she received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Wells's accomplishments earned her the nickname, Queen of Country Music.

Maymont seniors will be holding their September potluck supper Sept. 30 at Maymont Seniors' Hall. Everyone is welcome. Please join us for great food and fantastic entertainment.

Maymont Hall committee members are also selling tickets for a money draw fundraiser. Tickets are $20, with only 200 sold. There will be 15 draws for $100 and one lucky ticket for $500. Call Carol or Mel for tickets at 306-389-2440. The draw will be made the evening of the Legends.
