Here I go again. Did I happen to tell you how much I love music? Last weekend friends and I went into Saskatoon to see Jersey Boys. What a fantastic show. There was Frankie Valli romancing the '60s. Does this give my age away? Frankie Valli came to fame in 1962 as the lead singer of the Four Seasons. Thanks to the success of the group, such classic songs as Big Girls Don't Cry, Walk Like a Man, Rag Doll and Can't Take My Eyes Off You are all the rage all over again.

Born Francis Casteliuccio on May 3, 1934, he grew up in a public housing project on the tough streets of Newark, New Jersey. As the character of Tommy DeVito, Frankie's friend and fellow Four Season, say in Jersey Boys, "If you're from my neighborhood, you got three ways out. You could join the army. You could get mobbed up. Or you could become a star."

When Frankie was seven his mother took him to New York city's Paramount Theatre to see Frank Sinatra. That performance inspired him to pursue a career as a singer. For two years the Four Seasons sang background for Crew's other acts while working on a style of their own. In 1962, Gaudio came up with a song that made full use of Frankie's remarkable range, from baritone to falsetto. When the unknown Seasons sang Sherry on American Bandstand, they suddenly became the hottest band in the land. From 1962 to 1978 Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons sold more than 100 million records.

In 1990 Frankie and the other original Seasons were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, only five years after the hall was established. For as far into the future as anyone can see, Jersey boys will introduce the music of Frankie Valli to new generations. As his character says at the end of Jersey Boys, "Like that bunny on TV with the battery, I just keep going and going and going.

The people who performed in this musical must love music to give what they do in their performance. Anyone who missed it and gets another chance to see it, don't miss it.

Halloween is coming up, are you ready? What is Halloween? It is a holiday observed Oct. 31, the eve of All Saints' Day. Its pagan origins can be traced to the Celtic Festival of Samhain, celebrated in ancient England and Ireland to mark the beginning of the Celtic New Year. The souls of the dead were supposed to revisit their homes on Samhain eve, and witches, goblins, black cats and ghost were said to roam abroad. The night was also thought to be the most favourable time for divinations concerning marriage, luck, health, and death.

The pagan observances influenced the Christian festival of All Hallow' Eve, celebrated on the same date. The holiday was gradually. Still associated with evil spirits and the supernatural, it is celebrated by children in costume who gather candy by ringing doorbells and calling out "trick or treat, "trick" referring to the pranks and vandalism that are also part of Halloween tradition.

Happy belated birthday wishes to our dear friend, Jack Alm. Jack joins us at our seniors' jam sessions and jam sessions at the hall.
