Hundreds of kids turn out for the annual Easter egg hunt in Unity

The inaugural year of the Co-op Easter Egg hunt, in 2005, two feet of snow fell on the regional park grounds after the entire supply of eggs were hidden, making it a big challenge for both organizers and participants. A lot has changed since then.

The inaugural year of the Co-op Easter Egg hunt, in 2005, two feet of snow fell on the regional park grounds after the entire supply of eggs were hidden, making it a big challenge for both organizers and participants. A lot has changed since then. This year the snow fell again, however, the organizers were quick to change the venue to the skating rink surface. They were able to advertise this by announcement at the schools, Facebook, word of mouth and posters.

In less than an hour's time, 5,000 eggs were gathered by five age divisions of the children who came to enjoy this annual event. All participants were treated to the hunt itself, chocolate eggs and prize tags redeemable for 250 prizes (50 for each age group), thanks to many local sponsors as well as the host of the event, Delta Co-op.

Delta Co-op started this event and continues to do the lion's share of the planning and organizing with the help of their staff. Since inception, many sponsors have climbed aboard including the Sifto Rec Club who provide workers and their large BBQ to cook and serve the lunch provided free of charge to all the kids and their parents. Sifto pays for the hot dogs. This year 400 wieners were purchased and one lone hot dog remained uneaten at the end of the event.

Approximately 300+ kids took part in the event which included Cooper the Bear, and the Easter Bunny.
