HUMBOLDT — Health restrictions aren’t stopping the City of Humboldt from celebrating the nation’s birthday.
Activities on Canada Day include fireworks, a house decorating content and free golf.
“We were able to find activities that we can do within the restrictions available to us, so we figured we might as well let the community enjoy Canada Day with a few activities,” said Jocelyn Doetzel, the city’s programs and special events manager.
There will be a free nine hole round of golf for Humboldt residents at the Humboldt Golf Club. The trail system, disc golf, parks and playgrounds will also be open for residents.
Fireworks will be launched from the Uniplex this year at dusk, which should be around 10:13 p.m.
“It'll be a drive-in event,” Doetzel said. “We’ll have parking lots available where people can park and they'll be asked to stay in their vehicle before, during and after the show, the whole time.”
The parking lots will be the Uniplex North Parking Lot, Quill Centre and the Humboldt Co-op.
There’s also a decorating contest for local homes. Residents can decorate their homes in red and white, and then submit a photo from June 22 to 29. The community will vote on the best house one June 30 and July 1. The winners will be announced on July 2.
