A day packed to the brim with hockey-related events is being organized to pay tribute to the younger players of the sport.

¡°We host minor hockey day every year as an appreciation for our players and families,¡± said Jamie Fleischhacker with Humboldt Minor Hockey. ¡°[It¡¯s] just a fun event for families and the kids associated with minor hockey.¡±

The day, held Jan. 26, begins at 8 am with a series of skills workshops for atom, novice, bantam peewee and midget filly players both on ice and on dry land lead by an instructor from the Saskatchewan Hockey Association.

At 1:15 pm, the peewee AAs will play a game, followed by the midget AAs at 3:15 pm.

Then, starting at 4:30 pm, something new will happen.

¡°Later in the afternoon, we¡¯re actually hosting a tailgating party before the Bronco game,¡± Fleischhacker said. ¡°We¡¯re doing a big bonfire and having hot dogs for the community who would be interested in coming out.¡±

The organizer said they¡¯re holding the tailgating party because they wanted to do something new and thank people for supporting them after a difficult year last year.

At the 7:30 pm Junior A Humboldt Broncos home game against Notre Dame, there will be a puck toss.
