HUMBOLDT 鈥� Having be the first called up in the Humboldt Legion鈥檚 chase the ace draw, Joyce Szautner was guaranteed to win a share 20 per cent of the evening鈥檚 earnings 鈥� $1,075.
Then she drew the ace of spades, winning the jackpot of $10,069.
鈥淚 thought it was the joker,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 thought, 鈥榳hat the heck is a joker doing in here?鈥� Then I looked at it again. I thought, 鈥榟oly shoot, I think I just won.鈥欌��
March 30 was the last evening of the chase the ace, which serves as a fundraiser for the local Legion.
Szautner has plans for the money she won.
鈥淢y son is getting married and I get to pay for his wedding,鈥� she said, adding the winnings will also be handy because her husband had surgery and is off work.
Szautner said Humboldt residents should support the Legion.
鈥淚t's a great place. I'm going to donate $500 back to the Legion,鈥� she said. 鈥淛ust come out and support them. It's a wonderful place and and they need help.鈥�
