The Humboldt Guardian Angels is looking for volunteer knitters, crocheters and quilt makers to join their collective to make items for charity.

With donated yarn and other materials, the Humboldt Guardian Angels creates and donates toques, scarves, afghans, lap covers, shoulder covers and quilts.

According to Josie Stroeder, the group鈥檚 leader, there is no fee for joining nor commitment.

鈥淲e need more volunteers because we like to give. It鈥檚 all charity,鈥 Stroeder said.

鈥淚 think with COVID people are scared to come out, and that鈥檚 why we got to promote it, because people who are shut-in now need things to do.鈥

Currently, the collective has about 10 active members.

Their work has been donated to cancer clinics, Ronald McDonald House, seniors鈥 centres, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Kinettes.

Stroeder said the crocheting and knitting is typically done physically distanced, with one in-person meeting in October and a second in April.

鈥淭he one in April, now, they鈥檒l bring all their things that they knit or crocheted during the winter,鈥 Stroeder said. 鈥淭hen they do some over the summer, and in October we鈥檒l do another get-together and we deliver that for Christmas gifts and stuff.鈥

She said the work each volunteer does differs, with some bringing two or three afghans, while others bring 25 toques or scarves.

鈥淭he reception is excellent. I think they鈥檙e kind if they know the Guardian Angels are doing it, because it鈥檚 all donated,鈥 Stroeder said.

鈥淲e put their names on them and sometimes they receive thank you cards for people who have received their gift, like an afghan or shawl.鈥

To volunteer, Stroeder said they can give her a call at 306-682-2557.

鈥淭hey can pick up a ball of yarn at my house, I have yarn here all the time.鈥
