HUMBOLDT — While comic fans won’t be able to gather at the Summer Sizzler, they can take in an online question and answer session with seven creators.

Jeff Burton, the organizer of Humboldt’s Comic Con, said after the city cancelled the Sizzler, they suggested he arrange an online event, so he put out the word to some of the creators that were planning to attend – or were interested but hampered by geographical limitations.

“I went through a bunch of creators and put the word out that this is what we're doing and found out who would be interested in taking part,” he said.

The panel will be held on Saturday, June 20 and will be found on YouTube and the City of Humboldt's website.

“We're keeping the date, just kind of changing up how the event will look,” Burton said.

Questions can be submitted by the public to [email protected] by Monday, June 8.

“There's no such thing as a bad question to ask when it comes to asking creators stuff,” Burton said, adding they love to share their process and give encouragement for fans old and new.

The seven person panel includes Burton, the creator of Humboldt’s own Auroraman; Justin Shauf, artist for Frankenstein: A World of Gods & Monsters; Colin Work, creator of Blackthorne; Sharon Gauthier, artist; Jason Sylvestre, illustrator of adult colouring book Colour Saskatchewan; Michael McAdam, author of Gloaming and Thunder; and James Zintel, the cartoonist behind Gary and Ted.

Burton said he’s hoping to unveil a new Auroraman project during the event.

The comic writer said he’s bummed out that he’s missing out on a few comic conventions this year.

“The hometown show is always a lot of fun, but keeping everybody safe and healthy is first and foremost priority.”

Burton said the unplanned break means that he and other creators are going to put on bigger and better comic conventions next year.

“A lot of us are going to be really, really hungry to get in front of an audience again, and show off our stuff. I know quite a few creators, myself included, are really putting some extra work into making sure that we have some good stuff to bring to our fans.”
