HUMBOLDT — Lottery registration for the second annual Conexus Credit Union Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament is officially open to the public.
Those interested can reach out to [email protected] with the number of golfers they wish to register until the date of the lottery draw, June 7.
The lottery selection for spots is new to this year's memorial tournament, said co-host and Winnipeg Jets broadcaster Brian Munz. He said it was required given “the overwhelming support we've had from the business community and the families of the 29 that were involved” in the Broncos collision.
“There's a limited number of golf spots are available, obviously, in a one day tournament. Everybody wants to golf and we're thankful for that.”
The number of tournament spots given out in the lottery are still to be decided, and are dependent on how many members involved with the Bronco’s family are registered.
“Obviously, they get first priority to be involved in the event,” Munz said.
The number of teams this year has expanded to 40 from 36, allowing 160 golfers in total compared to last year’s 144.
The remainder of the community can attend the tournament's banquette following the game, featuring entertainment announced at a later date and an auction. Prizes include NHL jerseys, signed hockey sticks, and vacation packages, donated from across North America.
What’s more, Munz said, the banquet is “the chance that everybody really gets to come together, hangout, share stories and just enjoy each other.”
Munz said they were thrilled with how last year’s tournament, which raised $95,000, went with only five weeks of planning. This year's tournament has been planned throughout the year.
