Hometown royals capture volleyball gold

There is also a bred heifer raffle with tickets on sale at the show and sale or pick them up at the Esso, Northern Edge Tire and the Edam Credit Union. Come on out and enjoy the cattle show.

Trip of the month winner for September was O'Neil Baillargeon with Carol Poole winning the $100. Congratulations to you both.

Upcoming events for the next week include the United Anglican Church fall supper Nov. 3 at the Edam Community Centre from 5 - 7 p.m and the Edam Minor Hockey Association AGM Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Edam Community Centre. All are welcome to attend.

The Edam Wash Bay has implemented their winter hours. They will be open between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. beginning Oct. 15.

The Edam handi-van bingo evenings have started once again, with the first taking place Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The winners of the hams were: Marion Ottas, Janet Cadrain (twice), Shirley Godbout, Jim Mosimann (twice), Cameron Becotte (twice), Hugette MacGregor and Braxton Letwinetz, with Laurie Hamel winning the blackout game to take home $30. There were also kids' prizes for the youngsters who came out to play and those winners were Carlie Mosimann and Cameron Becotte. The next bingo will take place Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Edam Seniors' Centre.

The Junior Royals boys held their annual volleyball tournament Oct. 13. There were five teams on the A court and four on the B court. Each court played round robin throughout the day and each court determined a gold medal winner and runner-up.

Playing on the A court for the day were the Edam Royals A, Glaslyn, Loon Lake B, Neilburg and Unity. The Royals A team consisted of Bailey Morin, Tyson Long, Travis Burgess, Mason Blais, Mason Detillieux, Zachary Gordon, and Jonathon Seipp.

The B court saw the Edam Royals B, Loon Lake B, Turtleford and Pierceland. The Royals B team consisted of Lindon Goodall, Dawson Malenfant, Andrew Seipp, Zachery Curry, Kieran McConnell, Blake Blais, Anthony Seipp and Ryan Becotte.

The end of the day found the Edam Royals A capturing the gold on the A court and the Pierceland Panthers taking the gold on the B court in a very close final against the Edam Royals B. Congratulations to all the boys on an awesome day of competition.

The boys also took part in several other tournaments to date but the most exciting for them was when they captured gold at Mega-Volley in Maidstone Sept. 28 and 29, finishing the tournament with a perfect 16 win, 0 loss record. The Royals finished the round robin with wins over Neilburg, Maidstone, Bishop Lloyd, ES Laird and Wilkie. The boys then defeated Jonas Sampson in the quarter-finals and Holy Rosary in the semi finals. The boys finished the day off with a win over Loon Lake to capture the gold medal. Congratulations, boys!

The students of the week are Nevin Poole in Grade 4 and Blake Blais in Grade 7. Congratulations, boys!
