Hockey season winding down with playoffs

Hello; I'd like to introduce myself to you. My name is Fay and my husband and I moved to Neilburg 17 years ago.

Hello; I'd like to introduce myself to you. My name is Fay and my husband and I moved to Neilburg 17 years ago. When we were looking around at communities to relocate to, our impression of Neilburg was that it was a nice size community that was very attractive and well kept. I would like to include information about positive activities happening in our community.

The Manitou 4-H multi club held a successful beef supper in the Neilburg hall Feb. 14.

The hockey season is winding down. This past season Neilburg had initiation, novice, and female midget teams. Atom, peewee and bantam teams were combined with Maidstone and the midget team was combined with Lashburn.

The bantam team has begun league playoffs. The playoffs are a best of three format. They played Lashburn in the first round and won the first two games, so will now advance to the next round against Turtleford. The first game will be played March 3 in Turtleford, the second game will be in Maidstone March 6 at 6:10 p.m. If a third game is played it will be back in Turtleford.

The midget girls have had a successful season. They placed within the top four teams in their league, therefore got a by in the first round of playoffs. They will play the second round starting in the first week of March. Watch for more information regarding times and locations. The girls are also competing in provincials at this time. They won over Tisdale in double over time in their second game. They will now advance to the next round.

The Neilburg senior monarchs are competing in the SASKALTA senior hockey league playoffs at this time. They won the first round and advanced to the second round where they are currently battling it out with the Dewberry Mustangs.

There was a group of CanSkaters in Neilburg this winter. They will be holding their carnival on March 12 at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate their success.

In the month of March the public library will be busy. The calendar photo contest is currently underway and photo entries will be received until May 9. Voting will take place during regular library hours from May 13 to 30. A St. Patrick's day tea will be held March 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. The library annual meeting will be held on March 19 at7:30 p.m. in the library.

For those who have not received the school newsletter, it is once again time for the grad class fruit sale fundraiser. If you have not been contacted by a student and are interested in purchasing fruit call the school by Feb. 27 to place you order. Graduation in Neilburg is scheduled for May 3.

I am hoping to be able to write a column once a month at the beginning of the month, so if your group is having an event and would like to inform the public, or has had an event and would like to thank or congratulate individuals let me know and I will try to include it in the news. In the mean time enjoy life in this vibrant community!
