Every Tuesday morning the Meota Hobby Band practises at the Do Drop In and last Tuesday there were more guests in to listen, than usual. This was the last time that one of their group would be taking part while still a resident of Meota. Alice Scott is moving into Davidson Manor in North Battleford at month end. She was presented with a purse of money by Rose Delainey and words of appreciation by the Hobby Band and guests present. The cake and ice cream dessert were donated by Pearl Hawkins and her hubby to go along with other goodies that the ladies always bring for coffee, so a nice social time followed.

The duplicate bridge winners Tuesday evening were Margaret Dyck and Dave Creegan first and Linda Ard and Cletus Sherman second.

The afternoon of March 19, nearly 50 people gathered at the Edam Seniors' Centre for a St. Patrick's Day dinner of Irish stew and biscuits. Many Meota seniors were guests. The highlight of the day was the celebrating of Irene Carlson's 90th birthday with a big cake brought by her daughter Wanda Weber and shared with everyone. They tied a birthday balloon to the back of her chair. The singing of Happy Birthday accompanied the cake. After dinner everyone took part in a game of their choice. Three tables played Kaiser with top score by Darlene Keal and low by Ken Tucker. Some played cribbage but didn't mark their totals. Several draws were made, from the list of people there, for prizes. It was a great day out visiting and we appreciated their hospitality and good food.

The afternoon of March 14 found three tables playing Norwegian Whist at the Do Drop Earning the top scores were by Linda Ard, Adele Feschuk, Lorna Pearson and Muriel Tebay. This was followed by a bountiful potluck supper. One table stayed for a game of Canasta later. Thanks to those who drove out from the city to make it a successful afternoon.

The next day, Saturday, a shuffleboard tournament was held at the Do Drop In, which was well attended and the noon potluck dinner was enjoyed by all. Top score went to Maureen Campbell and Joyce Antoine, second and third were tied so by flipping a coin the second team was Muriel Tebay and Cora Christiansen and the third team was Yvonne Mackereth and Lorna Pearson. Only one point separated these top teams. Those not playing, either visited or played Chit Chat. It was a lot of fun for everyone. The date for the next tournament is set for April 19.

The Meota library report that their days have been cut by one, as of July 1, because of decreased circulation. They also report that this library has more local history books than any other library in Saskatchewan.

At the end of the Rick Mercer show last week he suggested that anyone with nothing to do on the weekend should drive to Big River and attend their fish derby. There would be 800 holes and a $10,000 prize.

The lunch to the Catholic Church for the World Day of Prayer was brought by Rose Marie Nyholt. My informant got the sisters mixed up, sorry.

Condolences go out to those who have lost family members recently, there are too many to try to name, so know we are thinking of you and your loved ones.

Contract bridge was played at the Do Drop In Monday evening with top scores going to Robert Iverson and Joyce Antoine.

There are still people falling and getting hurt. It wasn't enough for Robert to have his sore shoulder and arm in a sling, now he's sporting a cracked rib to go with it. Get well wishes go out to all with casts and slings!

The Meota Chorus entertained at St. Paul's Anglican Church in the city March 19 when they held a tea to raise money to send workers to Baja to help in building projects there. Great fun was had by all as they joined in the singing and laughing, along with the chorus.

The price of gas just keeps on going up, and it isn't even a long weekend!
