Hills are alive with crocuses

Best wishes to all mothers. Hope you all enjoyed your special day. It is not often that the leaves are not out on Mothers' Day. At present there are just catkins on the poplars and the pussy willows look lovely.

Last Thursday my niece Eleanor and I journeyed to the hills several miles southeast of Waseca to enjoy the crocuses. There were lots of them on the pasture hills. They only grow in native grass. They had been blooming for a few days as some were losing their bloom, others were in full bloom and there were many yet to come. Also the buttercups were coming into bloom. They are such a beautiful small yellow flower. There are many poplar bluffs there and they all looked just grey.

There will be service at St. Paul's Church, Forest Bank Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. This will be special as Marian White's ashes will be buried following the service. A funeral service was held for her at Cut Knife some time ago during the winter weather. Lunch will follow.

Gully Gus says, "A youngster asked his grandma why she read the Bible all day long. The reply, 'I'm cramming for my final exams.'"
