HHS students compete in provincial track and field

Well track and field is complete for another year at the school. The high school meets were first with H. Hardcastle holding their in-house meet May 14.

Well track and field is complete for another year at the school. The high school meets were first with H. Hardcastle holding their in-house meet May 14. Thankfully the weather co-operated and those who placed first and second in each event advanced to the central meet at H. Hardcastle School May 21. From there, first and second advanced to districts in Meadow Lake May 27 and then to provincials in Moose Jaw June 5-7.

Bantam boys advancing to May 21 in Edam and then to districts were: Ty Mosimann - 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000m, advancing to districts in all four events; Brady Deobald - 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, advancing to districts in 1500m and 3000m; Andrew Seipp - long jump, discus, 100m and 100m hurdles, advancing to districts in all four; Blake Blais - 200m; Isaiah Morin - long jump, triple jump, 100m and 100m hurdles, advancing to districts in 100m hurdles; Anthony Seipp - discus and shot put, advancing to districts in shot put; Hunter Goodall - javelin; Dion Johanson - javelin; Trayton Poole - shot put; Tanner Long - 3000m; and Taylo Kambeitz - high jump.

Bantam girls competing in Edam May 21 and districts were: Trinity Froese - high jump, 400m, 800m and 80m hurdles; Raina Cole - long jump, high jump, discus and 80m hurdles, advancing to districts in high jump, discus and 80m hurdles; Hailey Brennan - long jump and 100m; Macey Levasseur - discus, javelin, 1500m and 3000m, advancing to districts in discus and javelin; Blaize Courtenay - 800m and 1500m; Brooke Bonsan - shot put and javelin; Candace Greening - triple jump and shot put; and Tiana Olson - triple jump.

Districts are the final competition for the bantam age groups; they are not able to advance to provincials.

Midget boys' who went to Edam May 21 and beyond were: Kade Mosimann - 400m, 800m and 1500m, advanced to districts in 400m and 800m, advanced to provincials in 400m and placed 18th in Moose Jaw; Tyson Long - long jump, triple jump, 800m and 100m hurdles, advanced to districts in long jump and triple jump, advanced to provincials in long jump and triple jump and placed fifth and fourth respectively; Mason Detillieux - discus, javelin and 1500m, advanced to districts in 1500m; Dawson Malenfant - long jump, discus, shot put and javelin, advanced to districts in discus and javelin; Jared Greening - shot put and 200m, advanced to districts in 200m; Ryan Becotte - triple jump; Lindon Goodall - 3000m, advanced to districts.

Midget girls competing at Edam and beyond were: Kesha Schaefer - long jump, 1500m, 3000m and 80m hurdles, advanced to districts in long jump, 1500m and 3000m, advanced to provincials in the distance running events, placing 20th in the 1500m and 19th in the 3000m; Chelsea Bec - discus, shot put, javelin and 100m; Brittany Nedelec - long jump, triple jump and discus, advanced to districts in javelin; Sabrina Froese - shot put and 100m.

Junior boys advancing were: Mason Blais - 200m and 800m, advanced to districts in both, advanced to provincials in 200m and placed 26th; Jonathon Seipp - 100m, 400m and 100m hurdles, advanced to districts in all three events, advanced to provincials in 100m and 400m but chose to withdraw from competition; Cordell Beynon - long jump, high jump, 200m and 400m, advanced to districts in high jump, 200m and 400m, advanced to provincials in the running events, placing 23rd in the 200m and 20th in the 400m; Brandon Nash - 100m; Jesse Cadrain - discus, shot put and javelin, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in shot put placing 13th; Zachary Gordon - shot put; Jayden Manastyrski - long jump and high jump; Bailey Morin - discus and javelin, advanced to districts in shot put, discus and javelin, advanced to provincials in javelin placing ninth.

Junior girls who moved on were: Taya Cole - discus, 800m, 1500m and 3000m, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in 1500m and 3000m, placing 24th and 21st respectively; Kalie Nordell - discus, javelin and 80m hurdles, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in javelin and 80m hurdles, placing 18th in javelin and 6th in the 80m heat; Jetta Derenoski - javelin, 100m and 400m, advanced to districts in all and the 800m, advanced to provincials in the running events, placing 25th in both the 400m and 800m; Payton Morin - long jump, triple jump and 100m, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in the jumping, placing 11th in long jump and 15th in triple jump; Melissa Monteith - shot put; Jensen White - shot put; Tayla Poole - long jump and triple jump, advanced to districts in both.

Senior boys competing at the central meet were: Tristan Derenoski - 800m, 1500m, 3000m, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in 1500m placing 26; Anthony Cole - long jump, 100m, 200m, 100m hurdles, advanced to districts in long jump, 200m, 100m hurdles, advanced to provincials in 100m hurdles placing 6th in heat; Reed Delainey - long jump, triple jump, 100m, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in long jump placing 17th, triple jump placing 16th; Dallon Becotte - discus, shot put, advanced to districts in javelin; Jared Blaquiere - javelin, advanced to districts in javelin; Eric Esquirol - discus, javelin; Zachary Nedelec - triple jump, 400m, advanced to districts in 400m.

Senior girls who moved on from the school meet were: Kaitlyn McCarthy - discus, shot put, javelin and 200m, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in 200m placing 24th; Brittany Bec - 100m, 200m and 400m, advanced to districts in all; Keinyn Nordell - long jump, triple jump, 100m and 400m, advanced to districts in all, advanced to provincials in the running events, placing 5th in the 100m heat and 21st in the 400; Chelsea Hamel - shot put and javelin; Emily Levasseur - long jump; Hailey Shewchuk - discus.

Congratulations to all of these talented athletes on a job well done. From what I saw posted on Facebook, you made your community proud in your conduct away from home as you competed.

Edam West 4-H Club held their annual achievement day the evening of May 29 with members bringing their calves in around 3 p.m. They then had their judging demonstration from their judge for the evening, Rob Bannerman of Livelong. An excellent supper of beef on a bun, salads and sweets followed for those who have supported the club in the past.

The members filed into the ring at 7 p.m. and were introduced, followed by the 4-H pledge. The junior members, aged 9 to 12, are Brett Deobald, Kaitlyn Harty, Ava Cole, Jade Cole, Brady Deobald, Hunter Goodall and Jared Russett; intermediate members, aged 13 to 15 are Brittany Nedelec, Lindon Goodall, Macey Levasseur, Ben Ramsay, Steven Ramsay and Rebecca Kobes and senior members, aged 16 to 21 are Zach Nedelec, Emily Levasseur and Brent Kobes. Acting as ring man for the evening was Jared Blaquiere.

Awards were given as follows, for the questionnaire: junior, first Kaitlyn Harty; second Brady Deobald and Jared Russet; third Hunter Goodall; intermediate, first Lindon Goodall; second Macey Levasseur and Brittany Nedelec, third Rebecca Kobes; senior, first Zach Nedelec, second Brent Kobes; third Emily Levasseur.

For the record book, winners were: junior, first Jared Russett, second Hunter Goodall, third Brady Deobald; intermediate, first Macey Levasseur, second Lindon Goodall, third Brittany Nedelec; senior, first Zach Nedelec, second Brent Kobes, third Emily Levasseur.

Senior grooming winner was Emily Levasseur with Brent Kobes second and Zach Nedelec third. In intermediates, Lindon Goodall was first, Macey Levasseur second and Rebecca Kobes third. Ava Cole was first in juniors with Jared Russett second and Jade Cole third.

The market steer grand champion belonged to Brent Kobes and reserve to Kaitlyn Harty. Ava Cole's was third.

Jared Russett's yearling heifer was grand champion, Lindon Goodall's reserve and Emily Levasseur's third.

Rebecca Kobes has the cow/calf pair grand champion, Jared Russett the reserve champion and Brady Deobald the third place winner.

Showmanship results were: senior, first Emily Levasseur, second Zach Nedelec, third Brent Kobes; intermediate, first Macey Levasseur, second Rebecca Kobes, third Steven Ramsay; junior, first Brady Deobald, second Jared Russett, third Hunter Goodall.

Judging card winners were: first, team four - Rebecca Kobes, Kaitlyn Harty, Lindon Goodall; second, team five - Emily Levasseur, Steven Ramsay, Hunter Goodall, Brett Deobald; third, team three - Brittany Nedelec, Ava Cole, Brent Kobes; fourth, team two - Ben Ramsay, Brady Deobald, Jared Russett; and fifth, team one - Zach Nedelec, Jade Cole, Macey Levasseur.

Breed specials were then shown with Brent Kobes winning the British breed steer class and Lindon Goodall winning the British breed heifer class. European breed steer was won by Kaitlyn Harty; Rebecca Kobes won the European breed heifer class. Owner of the steer with the highest average daily gain was Steven Ramsay whose steer had an ADG of 2.71 pounds. Grand aggregate winner for this 4-H year was Jared Russett.
