This past week has been fairly busy around the community with the rodeo and the Terry Fox run along with a community appreciation barbecue at the school. With the rodeo in town, the professional rodeo clown paid a visit to the school to speak to the kindergarten to Grade 6 students about the equipment used by the cowboys as well as what his job was. Although Dennis Halstead is an entertainer, he is also there to help protect cowboys when they are thrown.

The students, staff and community members participated in their version of the Terry Fox run fundraiser Sept. 26. Following the run this year the SRC sponsored a free barbecue in appreciation of the community. There were 400 burgers served and a silver collection was taken as well. The silver collection raised $570.13 and, added to the $3,559.79 that the students raised, brought the grand total to $4,139.92.

Principal Michael Lee agreed to do something at the beginning of the year if the students were able to raise $2,000 and, with the amateur bull riding event taking place the evening of Sept. 27, Mr. Lee agreed to ride a bull. Mr. Lee was a little nervous and set a goal of staying on for three seconds and I believe the judge stated that he rode for four seconds.

Congratulations to the students on their fundraising and to Mr. Lee for surviving the evening of Sept. 27.

The fifth annual CCA indoor rodeo was in town this past weekend. The amateur bull riders entertained the community Sept. 27. Taking part this year were Justin Rewerts, Ritchie Bonaise, Nicholas Bonaise from Cut Knife, Lane Finlayson, Sheldon Shick, Ambrose Hartman, Derek Graham, Justin Kirkland, Kolt Kirkland, Cody Hirshe, Jesse Smith from North Battleford, David Edwards, Damian Nichols from Glaslyn, Leif Sheill from Medstead, Cody Miller from Rabbit Lake, Doug Star from Thunderchild, Luke Dyck from Mervin and Brandon Lafreniere, Brent Blais and Michael Lee from Edam. Making the short go were six cowboys: David Edwards, Brandon Lafreniere, Cody Miller, Justin Rewerts, Derek Graham and Cody Hirshe with David Edwards taking home the buckle donated by Bruce and Laura Martin of Painted River Ranch.

Supplying the stock for the evening was Meadow Lake Stockyards with Master Feeds/Black Diamond Trucking bringing the livestock to Edam. Announcer for the event was Boyd Stuart with rodeo clown Dennis Halstead and bull fighter Craig Stevens. Pick-up men were Randy Sharp and Trent Macnab with Judge John Early and chute boss Brennan Weitzel. The entertainment during the intermission was supplied by Jodie and Ava LaClare and Kevin Kappel in the form of a greased piglet challenge with Jade Cole catching the pig. The 50/50 draw Thursday was won by Ken McConnell.

The Christ the King Parish fall supper will be held Oct. 14 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Edam Community Centre.

Congratulations to the students of the week this week: Carlie Mosimann, Grade 3, and Henri L'Heureux, Grade 12.
