At the Borden Museum Aug. 11, Helen Gerster was the guest speaker and she related many stories of nursing in Borden, telling the history of the Cottage Hospital which operated from 1933 until 1946.
The Borden Municipal Hospital was established in 1946 with an extension added in 1954 and a solarium in 1959. The hospital became a union hospital in 1963 and it had patients from Maymont to Langham. A new 10-bed modern hospital was built in 1978, which is now the Borden Health Clinic.
Helen told of some of the doctors who had served over the many years. She started working in 1958, then married a local farmer, Gilmour Gerster, in 1960, but still worked part time for many years in the new Borden Union Hospital.
There is a display in the museum of a hospital room and equipment used in early days, so drop in and take a look.

Radisson Fair Results
The Radisson Fair, held Saturday and Sunday, started with ball games on Saturday morning followed by the parade at 11 a.m.
The day featured ball games and children’s activities such as Beeper the Clown who did balloon animals and face painting. There was a supper of pulled pork with all the extras and dessert.
Dukes Under Fire provided the music for the Firemen’s Dance in the evening.
The children’s tractor pull had fewer entries, but winning the trophies were: ages three and four - Jeht Flath; five and six years - Canyon Beaudoin; seven and eight years - Tayvin Werezak; nine and10 years - Dalton Friesen.
Sunday morning the Hosegood family held a pancake breakfast.Linda Hosegood had baked 32 dozen scuffles and 10 dozen muffins for the event, so a big thanks to her.
On Sunday the ball continued with 20 teams entered. There was a Super Ron magic show in the curling rink along with a reptile show both days and the seniors’ club sold ice cream for two days.
In the vintage tractor pull on Sunday, winners were: 5,000 lbs – first Brayden Wright – full pull, second Dean Williams – 57.1metres; 6,000 lbs – first Brayden Wright – 62.6M, second Daryl Amey – 44.9M; 7,000 lbs – first Curtis Lammers – 57.8M, second Brayden Wright — 48.8M; 8,000 lbs – first Russell Schultz — 64.4M, second Jeremy Hosegood – 52.8M; 9,000 lbs – first Kyle Skarlbo —55.6M; second Dean Williams – 54.3M; 10,000 lbs — first Braydon Neilson – 69.9M second , Russell Schultz — 68.7M; 12,000 lbs – first Colin Berklund — 58.9M (Colin also won the Bernard Wilkie Memorial trophy for winning the class with the most entries), second Braydon Neilson — 58.8M.
The vintage tractors included Massey Harris, John Deere, Oliver, McCormick Farmall, Minneapolis Moline and a Cat. There were two stock trucks pulling 12,000 lbs and first was Braydon Neilson with 40.4M and second was Dyson Wilkie with 27.8M.
Exhibits in the curling rink drew 108 exhibitors with almost 1,000 entries from Radisson, Borden, Maymont, Langham, Hafford, Rosetown, Yorkton, Saskatoon, Edmonton and elsewhere.
High points for hay and grains and grains for seed were by Shantal Amson of North Battleford.
