Harvest season is just around the corner

Harvest looks like it could soon be on the horizon in spite of later seeding and spraying this year. Adequate moisture and heat have developed crops in the area well.

Congratulations to area athletes who competed in this year's Saskatchewan Summer Games in softball, baseball and volleyball.

The UK Royals junior girls' fastball team attended the Western Canadian Softball championships in Moose Jaw.

There are only a few weeks left in the swimming pool season. It is one of the best places to cool off. The pool is open for public swimming each afternoon and evening, as well as offering weekday aquasizes class. Moonlight swims take place after public swimming on Wednesdays. Call the pool at 228-2133 to register for scuba diving lessons or the diving clinic.

This year annual Fun Day of Golf at the golf course is a fundraiser for the Unity Facilities Committee. The UFC has received permission from the Town to explore a potential location between the Cardinals diamond and the Elks diamond. Although fundraising initiatives have been largely organized by the committee itself, they still look towards community groups and members to help them reach their goal of building a new ground floor hall and new swimming pool. The committee is hosting a small circus Aug. as a fundraiser for their cause.

The 3rd annual Candace Heitt Memorial Run will take place Sep. 16. Registrations can also be taken now by contacting Donna Boser at 228-2181 or Terra Heitt at 228-2532. Funds raised from this event are earmarked for the walking paths at the health centre to benefit patients and long term care residents, as well as anyone else who wishes to take advantage of the walk in nature.

The QR code scavenger hunt takes place Aug. 13 to 17 at local businesses, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. There could be some great prizes to be won and could be a lot of fun to participate in. The chamber of commerce are always doing their best to promote local shopping. Think of this when you are looking to buy your children's back to school supplies as several locations in town will carry these items giving you one less trip to make in the busy season ahead.

Coffee row folks are sad to see the Olympics coming to an end as it is always fuel for conversation discussing the wins, the losses, and the heart warming stories that develop throughout the event. And Rider season is never off the coffee row consulting table as fans discuss the pros and cons of what is working this season and what isn't working, as well as debating the new stadium proposal. And the weather can never be sidelined as it gives us such a variety of conditions each week that it is sure to spark debate on whether we have or have not seen another year like this. So, you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week
