Handi van bingo over until the fall

The final bingo of the season was held April 12 at the seniors' centre by the handi van committee.

The final bingo of the season was held April 12 at the seniors' centre by the handi van committee. Winners of chickens were Huguette MacGregor (2), Lionel Godbout, Laurie Hamel, Irene Carlson, Frank Poole, Jessie Armstrong (2), Valere Corbeil and Herman Hoogland. Winning the turkey in the blackout game at the end of the evening was Lori Curry. Kids' prizes donated by Kay Mannix were won by Brennan Seipp and Ava Cole. Congratulations to all winners and thanks goes out to Dora Greening for her donation of the blackout prize. The committee will be resuming the bingo evenings in October.

The spring book fair was held at the H. Hardcastle School library during the week of April 8 - 12 with the family evening taking place April 11. The winner of the family night draw was Kaitlyn Harty who won $25 worth of books for herself as well as $25 worth of books for her teacher, Mrs. Darcy de Montarnal's, classroom library. Congratulations to you both and thanks go out to all who purchased books during this event. The proceeds go towards buying new materials for the school library.

The annual general meeting of the Edam Credit Union Ltd. was held on the evening of April 17.

The supper, catered by Mim's Catering of Edam, was followed by the meeting. Chairman of the board, Evelyn Cooper introuced guests in attendance - Suzanne Odishaw of Baret Cameron Odishaw La Cock, Bill Quinn, Mitch Rokochy and Ian Heggstrom of Turtleford Credit Union, Wayne Reed, Lola Lapensky and Jeanine Dauvin of Spiritwood Credit Union, Bill Volk and Bruce Sack of Innovation Credit Union and Mickey Mikkelson. There were 83 members attending.

Following a presentation of fraud awareness by staff member Wanda Mosimann the election of directors was held. Lee Monteith, chair of the nomination committee, presented the names being considered to replace the directors whose term have ended as well as replacing director Kelly Stuart who passed away last summer. Those who were elected by acclamation were Evelyn Cooper (re-elected), Guy St. Amant (re-elected), Andrea Harty and Gilbert LaClare.

Shanae Blaquiere and Lindon Goodall gave a presentation on the Saskatchewan Co-operative Youth Program. Shanae participated last year as a junior leader after several summers as a camper and Lindon took part as a camper for the first time last summer.

Long term service awards that were presented to Wanda Mosimann and Glenda Weber, both for 10 years of service to the members of the Credit Union.

Due to the phasing out of the penny, those who brought in pennies were entered into a draw with the proceeds going to the library in pennies for literacy promotion. Winning the draw was Charlie Blaquiere. Throughout the evening there were draws for door prizes that were won by: Frank Poole, Dianne Weitzel, Jerry Goodheart, Louise Goodheart, Mitch Rokochy, Ian Heggstrom, and Bill Quinn.

Other presentations that took place were to LeAnn Thom upon her retirement and to Evelyn Cooper for her dedication to the credit union and her involvement in the recruitment of the new manager.

Students of the week need to be caught up on again. In the weeks since the Easter break are: the first week back had Lacy Pelchat and Mason Blais receiving breakfast and other prizes during their week and the following week were Shyloh Vecmanis and Cordell Beynon.

Friday, April 19, was the day of the spelling bee at H.H.S. Participants from Grades 4-8 took part and after several rounds the top speller was decided. This year the winner, receiving $50 from the SRC, was Blake Blais of Grade 7. Blake will not be advancing to the regional spelling bee this year as that event has lost funding and will not be held. Congratulations to all students who advanced from their class spelling bee to take part in the school bee.
