Local librarian Colleen Wicks hosted a Halloween party for children 10 and under at the library Oct. 29. Happy the Clown, Phyllis Cunningham, was in attendance. Happy read stories, sang Halloween songs, coloured Halloween ornaments and helped the children play pin the tail on the Halloween cat. After all the gaiety, Colleen handed out treats and shared cookies and juice. There were approximately nine children at the party.

Oct. 31, the librarian served cupcakes and coffee to all patrons who visited the library.

Sheila and Delbert Miller and the staff of Oasis Care Home in Speers hosted a Halloween party Oct. 31 for residents and guests, with about 50 attending. The theme for the evening was western, cowboys and Indian style. Walter Dumont entertained by playing guitar and singing Halloween songs. Phyllis Cunningham played the keyboard. A western style lunch was then served. It was a fun filled evening for everyone there.

Getting back to library news, Phyllis Cunningham won a prize on a contest in the adult category of My Favourite Book. The contest was for Saskatchewan libraries and her story was about Phyllis Diller. All entries were read on CBC Radio. Phyllis's prize was a book of aerial photographs by Howie McPhail called Portrait of an Era by Bill Waiser.

The Speers and District United Church fall supper was held in October with approximately 170 attending. There were less people because of inclement weather conditions.
