Grants from the Mary Lou and Panos Antoniades Fund of the Battlefords and District Community Foundation have been distributed to a number of local groups.

St. Paul's Anglican Church, Battlefords Humane Society, Battlefords District Care Centre (recreation department), the Battlefords Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Canadian Cancer Society all recently received their first annual grant from the Antoniades Fund.

"Tony was very involved in this community during his life and he established this fund to continue to help after his death, said Heath Gabruch, BDCF board chair.

"He carefully planned how his bequest could best benefit those causes he cared about most. His generosity will ensure that these groups continue to provide their services to the community."

Community members can contribute to this fund knowing that the annual income will help to support the work of local groups. According to a press release, donations are put into a permanent endowment that will only use the annual income for the grant. The principal stays in the endowment forever.

Community foundations across Canada have been established to create endowments that will provide annual income to meet needs in the community. The Battlefords and District Community Foundation currently has 19 funds that will provide funding for a range of interests from the arts and health care to high school scholarships and recreation.
