Happy New Year from the Rivers' Edge Quilters to you. We are starting 2013 with a bang.

Classes include Circle Around, the Celtic Knot and a special Louise Day. Louise was one of our founding members and she recently lost her husband. The guild decided to help Louise with some of her UFO's (unfinished objects). It will be a fun working day with a potluck lunch.

Recently, I came upon the minutes of the guild's very first meeting and thought you might be interested in seeing how many turned up and what our goals were for the guild. Following are the original minutes from our very first meeting of the "unknown guild."

The initial meeting of the unknown quilt guild was Sept. 11, 2000 at the North Battleford Public Library, at 6:45 p.m. Seventeen interested women attended this meeting.

Louise Nykiforuk acted as chairman for the evening.

We agreed our reason for existence included to promote quilting, to form a club of people with similar interests in order that we might bring in teachers, films, etc., to share knowledge expertise, book, resources and tools and to socialize.

We agreed to meet one night every month, which will be our business meeting. The second meeting will be a program or a workshop or stitching evening. The business meetings will be the first Tuesday of every month, with workshops at various dates. The meetings will start at 6:30 p.m. and will run from September to May.

The meeting place will probably be the Don Ross Centre craft room. They charge $30 per month with unlimited use. They supply tables and have lots of counter space, plug-ins and natural lights. The only drawback is we have no place to store things permanently. We will look into this matter. It was mentioned that we look at the Lions Den on 105th Street.

We agreed that we should have a $20 membership fee to join the guild. You also have to be a member to take part in any workshops. We would also institute a user fee of $2 per person for meeting nights and workshops. If you attend any meeting or workshop, you pay $2. People who give presentations or workshops are exempt from this fee.

Officers elected were: president- Louise Nykiforuk, secretary- Carol Johnson, treasurer- Arlene Schwab.

The first workshop will be Sept. 19 and 23. Jeanine Ferguson will teach Stack and Whack. The material will be supplied, so you need to bring your own machine and other supplies. Irons and ironing boards will be provided. The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to whenever you are done. You bring your own lunch and coffee.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 3, 6:30 p.m. at the Don Ross Centre. Bev Beggs and Betty Mann will give a presentation on colour. Louise Nykiforuk will give a presentation on general quilting supplies. Everyone is encouraged to bring something for show and tell. As to date we don't have a name, please bring suggestions.

Betty Mann reminded us of the Monday afternoon quilting group that meets at the United Church every Monday at 1 p.m. to do hand quilting.
