Plumes of smoke filled the skies as grassfires erupted in the Unity area April 30.

It's Mother's Day weekend. Let's all take the time to thank our moms for the many unrecognized, unrewarded and unpaid things she does to make our lives great. She's always there when we need her. Special shout out to my mama Sophie and my mother-in-law Anne.

After being barraged by never ending rain and snow starting Easter weekend and lasting nearly a week, it was a shocking surprise to have April 30 filled with grass fires. It was a long night for fire crews but once again, people came to help where needed aiding fire crews. The biggest, longest lasting fire was especially challenging to firefighters as the scene was difficult to get into with big trucks and the fire chief commends his squad for fighting this particular fire extensively by hand. Another reason to shake the hand of one of your volunteer firefighters.

They competed at the Moose Jaw invitational track event this past weekend with some good results.
