Gopher seen and talk of calves - spring around the corner

As hard as it may be to believe, spring is just around the corner. Last week Henry Konopelski saw the first gopher playing along the side of Highway 378. Hopefully the crows will soon be back because we usually get a crow storm after they arrive.

As hard as it may be to believe, spring is just around the corner. Last week Henry Konopelski saw the first gopher playing along the side of Highway 378. Hopefully the crows will soon be back because we usually get a crow storm after they arrive. Some say three crow storms. If we don't get at it pretty soon, we will be having crow storms in July! If we need any other hints that spring is in the air, the farmers are beginning to talk of new calves.

Get well wishes go out to Mrs. Ruth Hepp, a patient in Prince Albert Hospital.

The community sends its condolences to Jake and Cecilia Krahn and to Eric and Karen Kuffert on the passing of Cecilia's brother and Karen's uncle. Also we think of the Giesbrecht families on the passing of Hank Giesbrecht, long-time resident of the Mullingar and Mayfair communities.

Congratulations to Adrien and Sonia Prince of Battleford on the birth of their daughter March 4. The baby's name is Lyric Christina and weighed in at eight pounds, 3.5 ounces. Proud grandparents are Dave and Margaret Siegel of Rabbit Lake and Joan and Aime Prince of North Battleford. Lyric is a great granddaughter for Mrs. Ruth Hepp of Rabbit Lake.

Congratulations to Brian and Jenn Jones on the birth of a son March 8. Irvin Brian Jones weighed eight pounds and 15 ounces. He was born at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Grandparents are Earl and Shirley Jones of Rabbit Lake and Dave and Sarah Wall of Neuanlage. Great grandmother is Beryl Jones of Rabbit Lake.

With all these babies, I wonder if there is any hope of reopening Rabbit Lake School?

The Rabbit Lake Community Hall board held its annual meeting March 4. By the constitution, no member can exceed three consecutive terms, nine years, and so we had to say a huge thank you to Cornie Martens, Jessie Konopelski and Christine MacDonald.

New to the board are Randy McMurtry, Carol Ferguson and Marlene Martens.

The Rabbit Lake Housing Board has new faces. Leaving the board is Clifford Smith. Clifford has served for many years and we thank him for this willingness to serve the community. Chad Doell and Shirley Jones have joined the board. Marlene Martens will take over as chairperson. At present two single units are available for rent through Sask Housing.

Rose Gill Lodge sponsored an old-time music evening and dance at the Rabbit Lake Hall, March 10. About 75 people attended. The proceeds of the evening go to the residents' fund. The music was provided by the Rhythm-Airs: Ken Sorenson, Frank Bulyaki, Dave Plummer and John Roth. Door prize winners were Kylie Salisbury and Ray Leier.

Last week I outlined the volunteers who make up various committees and boards in and for the village. In re-reading the list I see that I missed reporting that Don Peters is the second representative to the Meeting Lake Regional Park Board.

It is time you start thinking about the Carlton Trail Jamboree coming up July 5, 6 and 7. This is the 25th jamboree. Carol Baker was the headliner at the first jamboree and she will be back to help celebrate the 25. Dean Brody will be headlining as well.
