Mid-August, and you know what that does? It strikes fear into those parents who will soon be packing up their recent graduates to prepare them to leave home for post-secondary school or work options. It can also mean there are only a couple more weeks of summer vacation and soon the busy month of activities, schedules, school and all that other fun stuff will be upon us.
Unity will be following their favourite golfer, 19-year-old Justin Wood, who is off to men's amateur nationals. As well, this month, our second favourite golfer, 90-year-old J.P. Boser will be competing in senior national golf in Edmonton, Alta. Good luck, gentlemen.
Because I had some deadlines due during our family vacation time, I don't have all the updates ready on how the UK Royals junior women's team did at the Western Canadian championship that took place in Winnipeg, Man., Aug 6-10.
Good luck to our peewee Cardinals "AA" team, competing in their Western Canadian championship in Swift Current this weekend.
Enjoy your last few lazy summer days at the Unity Centennial Swimming Pool as this is the pool's final, farewell season. After many years of service to the community, the old pool will turn its waves over to the new pool, currently under construction and slated to officially open in June of 2015.

Coffee row are the best in weather experts. Wisdom can predict what modern science always cannot. Experience can tell us what the weather channels don't. And, hearty laughter helps us all realize, no matter what Mother Nature hands out, there is always a place for a good laugh. Upcoming harvest, whether in the fields or in the gardens, provides some table talk too. The Riders - whether the conversation has gotten bolder or quieter, no one ignores the Riders during their season.
As differences around the world lead to violence, we can take pride and pleasure knowing that, no matter which side of the story you take, there is always a smile to share, a laugh to be heard and the reassurance of reconvening the conversation the next day. So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week.
