An amazing demonstration of the domino effect, with the entire school-body watching in the bleachers, occurred in John Paul II Collegiate gym at 9 a.m. Nov. 1.
This large scale domino effect was comprised solely of boxes of mac 'n' cheese.
The unique idea of having cheesy dominoes came from the ever-changing monthly gospel value. October's value chosen "community." Who in the community does not recognize the iconic symbol of mac 'n' cheese?
In September the school announced the idea of having a domino effect comprised of mac 'n' cheese. Students were urged to bring boxes of macaroni and cheese to their period one class, then were allowed to fill out a ballot from their teacher. The ballot was for additional prizes. The boxes were then taken to room 136 and stacked in the windows. The Commons was a perfect vantage point in which to watch the windows fill up with the boxes.
This visual was key, as the idea of dominoes sprang into students' minds and the event took off quickly. Mrs. Wouters, one of the members of the amazing mac 'n' cheese event, and her helpers set up the design on Halloween night to be ready for the show Monday morning.
Finishing to the thunderous applause and laughter in the gym, the noodles rattled in their boxes as they all fell down one by one (with special helpers along the way).
After the dominoes had been sprung and the entire design knocked down, the boxes were presented to Bill Hall, head of the food bank. The total number of cheesy donations was 1,135.
