The sudden death of Carol Sutherland came as a shock to her family and all who knew her. Carol passed away Nov. 2 at her home in Paynton. A memorial service was held for her at Maidstone Legion Hall Nov. 7. Carol is survived by her partner Tim Able, her daughters Kimberley and Chelsea and their families in Calgary, her mother Ruth Sutherland and brothers Lyle and John, and many other relatives and friends. Carol grew up in Waseca and attended Waseca and Maidstone schools. She worked at many jobs during her life. Our sympathy is extended to all.
The gazebo for Snell Park has been delivered to the village and will be installed next summer.
Nov. 8, a number of people gathered at Waseca Community Centre to put together a rink board. The following people volunteered to be on the board: Brad McIntyre, Tamara Snell, Crystal Sutherland, Roger Haugrud and Walter Wickman. Many others volunteered to help where necessary, especially when the rink is flooded. The board plans to hold regular meetings, the first one being on the first Wednesday in December. In the meantime, the board will be doing cleaning and maintenance work to have the rink ready to be flooded when weather permits.
School bus drivers will be pleased to know Debra Setter has acquired her endorsement to drive a school bus, so there will be a spare driver handy when needed.
The Waseca Community Centre held a meeting at the centre on the evening of Nov. 3. The main project for the future is to remove, dispose of and replace the existing flooring in the centre. Many activities and events will be taking place at the centre throughout the next few months to finance this project including potluck suppers, a bake sale, pie bingos, a fish fry and a Father's Day raffle. Other suggestions were also made. Watch the post office bulletin board and other notices for dates and times of the above activities.
The Centre Committee is having a Christmas Crafts for Kids Nov. 27 from 4Â to 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be provided to all participants. The committee has a budget quote for the flooring project, which includes materials, supplies and labour. Grants will be applied to for the project.
Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, was a school holiday and students will be free for the rest of the week. We have not had a veteran's committee in the village for many years. That does not mean that we should forget those who gave their lives to keep our country free.
Anyone wishing to place a wreath on the cenotaph is welcome to do so.
