Clifford and Lillian Garrett were guests of honour at a 50th wedding anniversary celebration hosted at Meota's Do Drop In June 21.

Mowing has been done at the Meota Cemetery before the funeral held for Dr. Iain Weston, on June 24. The community would like to express their appreciation for those responsible, as it is a big job. It seems various folks go out and do a bit now and then, but to have it all done at once, was great. I haven't seen any sign designating a "clean-up day." However if everybody continues to do their part, it will take lots of trips out, as the grass is growing so rapidly with all the rain we've had. By working together it can stay presentable for the summer visitors and all of us, when we visit there.

With the late spring, produce from the gardens is late coming in, so many were disappointed on the weekend not to find radishes, onions or other vegetables, available at the farmers' market in Meota.

Congratulations to Junice Headley in completing 60 years of being a part of the Battlefords musical community in which she taught music skills to piano students, performed at concerts, weddings, funerals, church and social functions. What a great musical memory her profession has provided for her and all who know her.

Tuesday evening, at the Do Drop In, duplicate bridge players turned out again with top scores going to Ross Morton and Margaret Dyck and second to Joyce Antoine and Robert Iverson.

The Meota Hobby Band performed at Central Park in North Battleford at lunch time Wedenesday, as part of an ongoing Live@Lunch program sponsored by the Downtown North Battleford Business Improvement District.

Sorry about the wrong spelling of a few names last week, I hate when that happens, so please forgive me. Bob Zurowski was the first, then in the Tucker story the grandparents are Paul and Pauline Sayers and the baby's name is Kinley Ann.

The Do Drop In was the scene of Kaiser players Friday afternoon, with four tables in play.Top score went to Ken Tucker, second to Herman Hoogland, Low scores were tallied by Teta Harty and Irene Carlson. It was a pleasant time with lots of lunch choices, too.

I have enjoyed the company of my eldest daughter Donna Lambert from Leduc, Alta. for a couple days recently, but she had to head home when she had company coming later this week. She came to the Do Drop In Monday to play shuffleboard and Chit Chat.

Canasta Friday evening found four tables in play, with one of six players, so a total of 18 people. All went well and playing top score were Rita Peterson and Pat Chapman. Runners-up were Murray McCrimmon and Arlene Walker. Again lots of tasty lunch treats.

There is no monthly meeting at the Do Drop Inin July and August.

Walter Vidal of Meadow Lake is recuperating in an Edmonton hospital following heart surgery. He underwent ventricular arterial device surgery recently. They installed a motor to keep his heart pumping. This has a wire from his heart to a battery pack that has to be recharged every 48 hours, or he can plug directly into an electrical outlet. They suggest he is now "Robo-man."

The BurgerBingo held at the Community Hall on Friday evening found a great turnoutof folks, many young folks from the campground, too. It was a success and nice way to spend some time with friends. It was sponsored by the community hall board. The winner of the garden bench, made by Jack Day, was Diane Lessard.

An overgrown lot in central Meota,is being cleaned up. The huge trees are being taken down, and it will eventually look better. It is a big job. The growth is like a forest and will take many man-hours to get it in order. There are so many trees to haul away as well as plant matter. It is nice to see new buildings going up. A couple foundations are started, so there'll be a building soon. Work on the foundation at the new fire hall is progressing nicely.

The contract gridge players met July 7 in the Do Drop In with high scores going to Terrence Dasilva and second to Gerry Craig. Another pleasant social summer evening was spent doing something they all enjoy.

A bake sale and garage sale was held at the Catholic Church Saturday. The baking went quickly and the garage stuff gradually diminished. Ihope they were happy with the results because it surely is a lot of work organizing an event like that.

Clifford and Lillian Garrett celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 21 at the Do Drop In in Meota with an afternoon come and go tea. This was followed by a family supper for about 50 people. This was hosted by the couple's children and their families and was appreciated by the honoured couple.

Clifford and Lillian moved to Meota in 2006 after living in North Battleford all their lives. The day proved excellent except for one brief downpour in the early afternoon.
